In 1967, Werner Hufsky had an idea that was simple but bold: Canadians deserved access to the same premium food brands that Europeans enjoyed every day. Starting from his home in suburban Toronto, he began importing German confectionery - one case at a time, one store at a time, one handshake at a time.

Nearly six decades later, that one-man operation has grown into one of Canada's most trusted food importers and distributors. But the philosophy hasn't changed: find the world's best food brands, bring them to Canada, and build partnerships that last generations - not just quarters.

Our Journey

From a Home Office to Coast-to-Coast Distribution

1967

The Beginning

Werner Hufsky starts importing German confectionery from his home in suburban Toronto. A one-man operation with a vision: bring the best of Europe to Canadian tables.

1970s

Ritter Sport Partnership

A handshake deal with a family chocolate company in Waldenbuch, Germany begins what would become a 50+ year partnership. Ritter Sport becomes Husky's flagship brand.

1980s

Beyond Germany

The portfolio expands beyond German confectionery to include brands from the UK, France, Finland, Italy, and the Netherlands. Yorkshire Tea and St Dalfour join the family.

1990s

National Distribution

Husky grows from a regional GTA operation to a national distributor, building relationships with every major Canadian retail chain from coast to coast.

2000s

30+ Brands Strong

The portfolio surpasses 30 brands. Husky establishes its Vaughan distribution centre, investing in temperature-controlled warehousing and modern logistics.

2010s

Second Generation

John and Gord Hufsky carry their father's legacy forward, combining Werner's relationship-first philosophy with modern trade marketing and category management expertise.

Today

48+ Brands, Coast to Coast

Husky Food Importers distributes 48+ premium European brands to 5,000+ retail locations across all 10 provinces. Still family-owned. Still built on trust.
